Later investigations required time and effort, helped by the inestimable service provided by the internet, which make it possible to establish leads to the possible manufacturer in Germany.

Starting with this information, the Embassy of the German Federal Republic in Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic, was consulted, using notes and photos of the old earthenware bottle. The embassy replied to the enquiry with efficiency, and advised that the enquiry had stirred the firm into action.

After a few days, an informative letter was received from the firm in Germany.

APOLLINARIS & SCHWEPPES GMBH & CO

They advised that this type of bottle had been used until the early 1900‘s for the despatch of Apollinaris Mineral Water to all parts of the world. These bottles were then replaced by glass ones.

Likewise, they said that a similar bottle had been found in Tahiti. They thought that the bottle found in Bahía Sloggett was about 110 to 130 years old, certainly making this find a rarity.
