Epopeya de trascendencia Nacional, Histórica y
Geopolítica protagonizada por Argentinos.
Que viviendo en pequeñas carpas, en una zona extremadamente inhóspita,
contando solo con picos, palas y trabajando con esfuerzo, garra y coraje,
abrieron un surco de tierra en el Desierto Blanco
para permitir operar aviones de gran porte con tren de aterrizaje
convencional,
es decir con ruedas. En ese dia memorable, procedente de Río Gallegos (Provincia de Santa Cruz) el avión biturbohélice Fokker F-27, matrícula TC-77, en vuelo regular, cruza al Continente Blanco y aterriza con sus ruedas en la pista de tierra, trasladando a altas autoridades, quienes participaron de la ceremonia de fundación de la Base Marambio; regresando también, en vuelo normal. Este fue el primer vuelo regular de una aeronave, que procedente de otro Continente, despegaba y aterrizaba en una pista de tierra el Casquete Polar Antártico, rompiendo con este hecho histórico, el aislamiento que hasta entonces existía con el Sexto Continente, convirtiéndose la Base Marambio en la "Puerta de entrada de la Antártida" El

An
epic of national, historic and geopolitical importance, run by
Argentines. They lived in small tents, in an extremely inhospitable world. Using only pickaxes, shovels and hard work, claws and courage, they opened a furrow of land in the White Desert, which allowed heavy cargo ‘planes, with conventional wheeled landing gear, to operate. Thus it was, our compatriots, the crew men of the patrol boat Soberanía, broke the isolation of the Antarctic Continent. From then transpolar routes were opened. Antarctica is a further piece of our homeland. Families live there. Argentines are born there. The work continues with the same effort and sacrifice, which our Antárticos have always given. On this memorable day, the twin turbo-engined Fokker F-27, registration TC-77, on a regular flight left Río Gallegos (Province of Santa Cruz), and crossed the White Continent to land on the strip of earth, bringing the high authorities who were participating in the opening ceremony of the Marambio Base. They also returned by a regular flight. This was the first regular flight by an aircraft from another continent, taking-off from, and landing on, a strip of earth on the polar ice cap, breaking, with this historic deed, the isolation which the Sixth Continent had. The Marambio Base became "the doorway into Antarctica".
The Ministerio de Cultura y Educación de la Nación (National Ministry of Culture and Education), together with all the provinces of the country, include the date of 29 October 1969 in their scholastic calendars as a date to be commemorated, at all levels, and in all types of the educational establishment, both public and private |
